A close relationship exists between poor health and
poverty. An acknowledgement of the important links between the
health of a population and development are integral to a nation’s
poverty reduction strategy. This relationship between health and
development is broadly recognised throughout the Development
industry, and is most prominently reflected in its feature within
the Millenium Development Goals
(MDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2000.
Health is clearly a priority sector for support in global
efforts to reduce poverty and includes confronting global health
through improving the quality, availability, and use of essential
health services throughout the world.
